Volterragusto: one of Tuscany's best food festivals

For 6 days in October, the beautiful medieval town of Volterra will open its gates and palazzi to host the most important eno-gastronomic event in the province of Pisa which celebrates the prized food products of the region as well its culture and history. Side by side with the 15^th Annual White Truffle Festival, this will be an occasion to enjoy the many delicacies of Tuscany as well as other regions. There will be tastings, workshops, conferences and exhibitions to enhance the experience.

Food stands and performers will fill the squares and courtyards offering entertainment for the whole family. Museums will reduce their admission fees to encourage visitors to discover their treasures. It will also be the chance to see the largest work ever produced in alabaster: the amazing model of the leaning tower of Pisa – which has just returned home after a world tour.

On Sunday October 21^st at 3:00 pm there will be a historic pageant that evokes the challenge between the town’s contradas (districts) and includes the unique Corsa dei Caci (a cheese rolling contest). On November 1^st at 3:30 pm a procession in period costumes with musicians and flag throwers will animate the streets.
